Homosexuality

Many people do not realize that homosexuality has been documented in human history since people first started recording it! Examples of homosexuality can be found in all cultures that have evolved just like it is found in today’s society.

Homosexuality In Ancient Cultureslesbians

In Africa, the first recorded case of homosexuality is that of two men named Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum. The pair lived sometime around 2400 BCE. In Eastern Asia, homosexuality has been recovered from the very beginning and it was widely accepted and even displayed openly. Thai kings were famous for having both male and female lovers and Thailand has never had a law prohibiting homosexual behaviors. In China, records of homosexuality date back as far as 600 BCE.

Native American homosexuals were known as “two spirits.” The Aztec, Mayan and other early Latin American people all documented homosexuality and it wasn’t until the Spanish invaded that the practice became illegal.

However, the most well-known cases of homosexuality have been documented in ancient Greece because it was such a large part of Greek culture. Greeks were known for their culture’s love of the male body, as evidenced by the countless statues and paintings of nude males. Public nudity was tolerated and even encouraged in some instances, such as when someone performed in the Olympics. Men would freely comment on the attractiveness of other men and they would often openly express affection publicly even if it wasn’t sexual.

Even the Greek military embraced homosexuality because they believed it bonded soldiers more closely together. Men would fight harder to protect a lover than they would a friend, they believed. However, the attitude of Greeks towards the “passive” male were very negative – if one was only attracted to females or they were never the “active” partner, they were considered polluted.

In Rome, however, thinks were different. All emperors took male lovers but young boys were off limits. It wasn’t until 390, however, that the Christian emperor Theodosius declared that “passive males” would be burned at the stake. Later, in 558, the emperor Justinian would expand the rule, saying that “active” partners would be burned as well.gays using levitra

During the Renaissance, homosexuality was extremely common amongst males in Italy even though the government was imposing penalties for practicing it. As time went on the Christianity spread, homosexuality came under increasing pressure. Many countries outlawed the practice under penalty of death and it wasn’t until very recently that some countries began to rethink those views.

Today’s world is divided in its view on homosexuality. Some countries are allowing same-sex couples to get married while in others the couples are often stoned to death. However, more and more countries are beginning to see the laws outlawing homosexuality as dated and are getting rid of them, and it will probably only be a matter of time before most countries in the world don’t have any laws outlawing homosexuality at all.
